PROJECT OVERVIEW
Revitalizing A Historic Transportation Corridor
Bridge No. 3039, located in New Haven, Connecticut, underwent comprehensive rehabilitation under CTDOT Project 0092-0668, completed in September 2019. The project focused on addressing critical structural deficiencies to extend the service life of the bridge and enhance safety and functionality. With a construction value exceeding $6 million, the project encompassed extensive repairs and upgrades to both the substructure and superstructure. The scope included concrete repairs, steel rehabilitation, deck resurfacing, and joint replacements to ensure the bridge met modern safety and operational standards.
SCOPE OF WORK
Structural Repairs
- Concrete repairs to both substructure and superstructure elements to restore integrity.
- Steel repairs to existing structural steel components, improving strength and durability.
- Replacement of existing pins in pin and hanger assemblies and hinges with modern components to enhance structural performance.
Superstructure Enhancements
- Complete removal of existing steel paint and application of protective coatings to prevent corrosion.
- Replacement of bearings to improve load distribution and accommodate bridge movements.
Deck and Surface Improvements
- Resurfacing of the bridge deck to provide a smooth, durable driving surface.
- Replacement of deteriorated bridge joints to restore structural continuity and prevent water infiltration
- Application of a new waterproofing membrane to protect the deck and substructure from environmental damage.
- Upgraded Route 34 & Route 110 intersections
Substructure and Drainage
- Repairs to substructure concrete elements to ensure long-term stability.
- Cleaning and extension of drainage scuppers and weep pipes to improve water management and reduce future maintenance needs.
